FALL RIVER, Mass. (WHDH) -- Police found a 31-year-old woman dead in a red Nissan on Saturday, after responding to reports that shots had been fired.
Shattered windshield glass was splattered across Cherry Street, an area that shaken neighbors said is usually quiet. Authorities said the attack was not random.
“It just goes to the core. It’s sad. Broad daylight?” said one neighbor, who didn’t want to appear on camera.
“We grew up here as kids, my whole life. My parents still live here. I never heard of anything like this, ever,” said Richie Moniz.
Residents said they have never seen the victim or the car before. Signs now hang in the neighborhood for the victim, with messages like, “Rest in Peace.”
Residents are particularly rattled because the suspect is still at large. Police have not made any arrests in connection with this crime.
“I’m petrified, I don’t even want to live here no more, I am petrified. I am scared to death. It scarred me for the rest of my life, I believe that,” said another resident.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s office is handling the investigation.
The victim lived in an apartment complex about a half block from where she was found dead. Police are urging anyone with information to contact authorities.
