TAUNTON, Mass. (AP) -- The Bristol County District Attorney's office says a Taunton police officer has fatally shot a man who pulled a gun on officers trying to arrest him on outstanding warrants.

Spokesman Gregg Miliote said in a statement Thursday night that officers approached 34-year-old David Arraiol near the intersection of Wales and Mason streets at about 3:30 p.m. He said Arraiol walked toward the driveway of a house on Wales Street and hid behind a car, then reappeared with a drawn handgun.

Miliote said police ordered Arraiol to stop and drop the gun. When he didn't comply, one officer shot Arraiol.

Police disarmed the wounded man, who was rushed to a hospital. He was pronounced dead.

Miliote said state police and prosecutors assigned to District Attorney Samuel Sutter's office are investigating.
