Hundreds turned out for 38 Studios auction

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WHDH) -- Hundreds of computers, monitors, televisions, chairs and memorabilia were up for auction Tuesday.

“I’m an animation filmmaker and I worked digitally so I’m here in town and want to see if I can pick some things up,” said Lorelei Pepi, who attended the auction at 38 Studios on Tuesday.

Hundreds toured former Red Sox player Curt Schilling’s now defunct 38 Studios in Providence hoping to turn the state’s failed business into a person profit.

“That’s the state awarding $75 million to 38 Studios to help get the company going. It’s going to go on my desk,” said Pat Rollo, who attended the auction.

“I own a couple of hobby shops and sell video games and sell a lot online and I think there’s a lot of merchandise I can resell,” Robert Yeremian, who hopes to win auction items.

People viewed six floors of items -- 2,100 in total.

Many people said the auction was sad. Some of the other items up for sale included name plates of the company’s former employees. Each of the monitors represents a job lost. The floors used to be filled with people working for the video game company.

“I think this was inevitable. This was a terrible deal and I’m going to try to recoup some of the tax money I’m going to be paying,” said Yeremian.

“I think they’re going to get a mere pittance back. I think that’s going to be the biggest problem,” said Kimberly Nelson, who attended the auction.
