Police investigating apparent homicide in Swansea
SWANSEA, Mass. (WHDH) -- It was just after 5:30 a.m. Saturday when Swansea police got a 9-1-1 call.
They responded to 500 Ocean Grove Avenue to find a woman dead in the home.
Residents woke up to the police activity.
"Obviously a little worrisome to have something like this going on, what is it, a murder?” said neighbor, Brian Plouffe.
The District Attorney's office soon confirmed that's what they were investigating.
By midday, several hours in, investigators were still on scene, processing evidence in the case.
Authorities have identified the victim as 51-year-old Lisa Mello. Right now, they are saying she is the victim of a likely homicide.
"We’d have back porch conversations, but I really didn't know her very well,” said neighbor, Nicole Letendre.
"There have been some problems with people next door, I realize that, but they've always been good neighbors, they've always been very attentive. The father especially if there's ever been anyone on my property or suspicious looking he'd always let me know," said Letendre.
Authorities have not said how Mello died. Her cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.
The crime was in an area neighbors describe as quiet.
"Pretty peaceful town, but every town can be peaceful and have problems too you know,” said a local resident.
It was certainly unsettling to some.
"Five houses down, that can be a little startling,” said a resident.
A homicide investigation is now under way. Authorities said the investigation is still in the early stages and that they should know more, once the autopsy results come in.
