Suspects sought in Brockton home invasion

BROCKTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- Police are searching for suspects after a family pet was shot during a violent home invasion in Brockton Tuesday.

According to Brockton police, around 5 p.m. a group of masked men barged into the home, fired one shot which hit the family dog.

Neighbors, who were just returning from work, say they rarely see police on their block.

“Nothing ever happens in this neighborhood, I’m shocked,” said Gene Lafontant, a neighbor.

The pit bull was rushed to a nearby animal hospital. The family told 7News the dog died. Family members weren't hurt, and it's unclear if the men stole anything before running away.

Some residents on the street have lived there more than 30 years and are worried there is crime right outside their front door.

“Never ever seen anything, and slowly, like a cancer it’s closing in, it’s all around the city…and it's never been here until now,” said Russ Kirker, a neighbor.

Police are searching for the men. The family didn't want to talk on camera. They said everyone was shaken up, but okay.

Neighbors, too, are unnerved.

“It's more disappointing as far as I’m concerned, I mean there goes my little piece of the world,” said Kirker.

Police believe two to three suspects were involved. They do not have good descriptions of any of them.
