KINGSTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- Kingston fire officials say several students passed out during choir practice at Silver Lake Regional Middle School, and one was transported to the hospital.

About 140 kids were at chorus practice in the auditorium getting ready for the annual holiday concert when a female student fainted. Eighth grader Max Waterman was there.

“Either it was too hot in there and some people couldn’t withstand it, and a couple people started collapsing on the stage,” said Waterman.

Five other students were transported to the hospital complaining of light headedness.

Firefighters tested the air quality.

“They took all of the multi-gas meters and went through there. Everything was at zero. The oxygen level was at 20.8 which was normal,” said Chief Robert Heath, Kingston Fire Department.

The school was never evacuated but parents whose kids were in the auditorium were notified.

“They said not to really worry about it. They said one girl might have been injured possibly from passing out initially but other than that they just want to play it safe I guess,” said Steven Waterman, a parent.

It is unclear what caused the fainting spell.
