Carolers break Guinness record for good cause

UNDATED (WHDH) -- A Christmas tradition: Caroling through compo beach in Westport, Connecticut.

But the classic songs of Christmas joy are a painful reminder of tragedy for the Badger family.

Three little girls, Lily, Sarah and Grace along with their grandparents were killed last Christmas Day where their home in Stamford caught fire.

This year more than 600 carolers belted it out and helped raise money for a fund the girls’ father set up in their honor.

"We saw the sign up last week, we went right home and signed up and I’m glad to be a part of something for a good cause also,” said one caroler.

Money raised will go to benefit the arts in underfunded elementary schools across the country.

It's likely to be quite a chunk of cash because this crowed is attempting to break the Guinness world record for caroling.

“Well yeah, I wasn't expecting that there were gonna be this many people, I thought 600 was an exaggeration,” said a young caroler.

In the past larger groups have gotten together to sing, 15 thousand actually gathered at one mall last year, but never before have so many people joined in for door to door caroling.

In an effort to set that record the group sang in front of 14 homes for five minutes each.

They beat the Guinness record by over 250 people.

Carolers rasied over $400,000 for the Lily Sarah Grace fund.
