Twins share story from inside Sandy Hook

NEWTOWN, Conn. (WHDH) -- Fourth grade twins are recounting what happened inside Sandy Hook Elementary School Friday.

“Basically we heard lots of bangs, lots of shouting, basically a lot of everything,” said Ethan Paley.

Ethan Paley, 9, with his twin brother Ben, little brother Jacob and their parents are still processing the sheer terror they were dealing with inside Sandy Hook Elementary School Friday morning.

“I mostly remember running, running away, which is what the police told us to do and that was a really, really scary time,” said Ethan Paley.

“I’m okay, but I’m not very happy it happened. It wasn’t supposed to happen. Those people did not deserve to die. They did not deserve to have a small, little life like that,” said Ben Paley.

It was 20-year-old Adam Lanza who shot his way into the school and opened fire with a high powered assault rifle similar to this one. When the shooting spree was over, 20 children, all first-graders were dead as were six adults including the principal.

Autopsy results showed Lanza shot his mother in the head multiple times. He later took his own life at the school.

“The weapon that was utilized most of the time during this horrific crime was a Bushmaster AR 15 assault-type weapon. It had high capacity magazines. In addition to that, the subject had in his possession a Glock 10 MM,” said Lt. Vance of the Conn. State Police.

schools in town will be closed Monday. On Wednesday, Sandy Hook students will return to school here in neighboring Monroe.

For now the twins, Ethan and Ben focus on their Legos trying to find a little normalcy amid something so terrible.

“I’m very, very glad to be home,” said Ben Paley.

There is still no clear motive in the shooting.
