ABINGTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- Crews battled a house fire on Progress Street in Abington Monday evening.

Flames and smoke came from the roof and out the windows. A witness said the back of the house was on fire.

It is unknown if anyone was at home at the time the fire broke out.

“An old lady lives there and I think two of her sons live there too. She didn’t know if one of her sons was home, there was a big mystery about that,” said witness, Jason Halpin.

Halpin saw a stretcher being brought to the house but is unsure if anyone was hurt. He said the elderly woman appeared uninjured and calm.

Nearby homes appeared unaffected by the fire.
