Police: Conn. mom left child home alone for week

CANTERBURY, Conn. -- A Connecticut woman faces charges after police say she went to Florida, leaving her 11-year-old daughter home alone for a week.
Michelle Kasseris said nothing in court the day after she was arrested and charged with risk of injury to a minor.
Her daughter had drawn authorities attention by skipping school.
One 11-year-old’s mother says she’s disgusted.
“I have a 15-year-old and an 11-year-old and if we went away for any amount of time they’d go to somebody’s house,” said Kim Sajkowicz.
When police came to Kasseris’s home last week they found her daughter home alone, according to the prosecutor.
Neighbors said they didn’t know.
“No we had no idea. The police showed up Thursday and asked if we’d seen her. But we just moved in on Tuesday,”said Matthew Baribeau.
They live two doors down from Kasseris apartment where a girl’s bike is locked up, complete with helmet.
“How can anyone even do something like that I don’t know what kind of reason she would have had…very important trip,” said Vivian Colli.
The prosecutor said at first Kasseris explained she had gone to Florida because of a death in the family, but then she admitted shed gone to Florida to see her boyfriend.
Kasseris was held on $25,000 bond.
Her daughter has been placed with her father in New York.
