Western New England students dies unexpectedly

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- Officials at Western New England University in Springfield said a student has died after collapsing during an intramural basketball game.

A spokesman for the school said 20-year-old George Papadoliopoulos collapsed at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Campus police and paramedics tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Papadoliopoulos was a sophomore biomedical engineering major from Hanover, N.H.

The cause of death remains under investigation.

A school spokesman says grief counselors are available for students and staff.

Jeanne Hart-Steffes, vice president for student affairs and dean of students, broke the bad news in a campus wide email Monday that "George touched the lives of so many members of our community in numerous ways."
