UXBRIDGE, Mass. -- A former Boy Scout assistant troop leader appeared in court Friday on charges of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy.

Justin Kelley, 22, is accused of assaulting the boy during a Boy Scout weekend canoeing trip at Lake Manchaug.

Prosecutors say Kelley pulled his kayak next to the victim’s, made sexual suggestions and fondled the boy. The victim claims that Kelly told him not to tell anyone.

In the court paperwork, the victim alleges that Kelley claimed to have had numerous sexual relationships with other Boy Scouts.

Sutton police said Kelly refused to be interviewed regarding the charges.

“The suspect declined to be interviewed. We contacted him, the investigator contacted him numerous times on the phone and he declined each time to be interviewed by police,” said Sutton Police Chief Dennis Towle.

The Boy Scouts released a statement saying: “Upon learning of the allegations we immediately notified the local authorities and removed him from Scouting and revoked his membership.”

Kelley was released from court, but the judge ordered him to wear a GPS monitoring bracelet.
