Bullying still a problem at South Hadley High

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- It has been a year since South Hadley teenager Phoebe Prince took her own life after she was allegedly bullied at her high school.

Now, another girl at the same school claims she is a victim of bullying.

In South Hadley, a somber anniversary - one year since Phoebe Prince hanged herself from the stairwell of her home. Prosecutors said that for months she was bullied relentlessly by the mean girls of South Hadley high school - tormented daily with shouts and threats.

Since then at the high school committees have been set up, experts consulted and programs established. Yet now there's another allegation of bullying at the very same school.

"I’ve been called Satan, a couple other curse words, I’ve been threatened to be beaten up," said Peyton Spinney.

Jennifer Kalvenik says her daughter Spinney - a 16-year-old sophomore- has had to endure name calling and other bullying.

"If she’s not cookie cut she doesn’t fit. She’s not their stereotype kid," said Kalvenik.

She says Peyton’s been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome - a developmental disorder which can result in social awkwardness. Her mother said teachers and school officials aren't doing enough to help even though she says she's called the school four times.

"Numerous conversations about the abuse that was going on and the fact that she was unhappy," said Kalvenik.

School officials won't comment in detail about Peyton’s allegations citing privacy laws but they dispute the family's claims.

In the year since Phoebe's death- lawmakers have unanimously approved a tough new anti-bullying law.

And a family has had to endure 12 months including Phoebe's birthday and Christmas without the daughter they love.

In Phoebe’s case, four girls and two boys have been charged with felonies including engaging in a patter or prosecution. They have pleaded not guilty and will go on trial later this year.
