AMHERST, Mass. -- A scare in the sky for the University of Massachusetts men’s basketball team.

The Minutemen’s flight to Pennsylvania had to make an emergency landing in Albany, New York on Tuesday.

Witnesses said smoke was coming out of the cockpit.

The plane landed safely and everyone got off. UMass head coach Derrick Kellogg said the team was rattled, but otherwise fine.

“We’ve got a few guys that aren’t huge fans of flying as it is, so there was some tension in the air as the plane was diverted to the airport. But at the same token I think our guys realize at times thing happen. A little adversity hits a team not and again,” said Kellogg.

The team had to make alternative arrangements to get to Wednesday night’s game against St. Bonaventure on time.
