AMHERST, Mass. -- Fourteen people have been arrested during a post-Super Bowl disturbance at the University of Massachusetts that took police in riot gear and smoke bombs to break up.

A university spokesman says those arrested after Sunday's game are scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown on charges including failure to disperse and disorderly conduct.

Thirteen of the 14 are students, and UMass is expected to review their cases for possible discipline after the court appearances.

Gov. Deval Patrick on Monday called the disturbance "very unfortunate," but said the police were doing their job and he was grateful that no one was injured.

An estimated 1,500 people gathered in a common area of the Southwest residential area after the New York Giants 21-17 win over the New England Patriots.
