Westfield police officer recovers from stabbing

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WHDH) -- A Westfield police officer was recovering Monday morning after being stabbed in an attack over the weekend.
Investigators say a man attacked the officer, and another officer then shot and killed the alleged attacker.
A woman called police Saturday, claiming her ex-husband was trying to break down her front door.
When police arrived, the man stabbed the officer multiple times.
The back-up officer then killed the man.
Neighbors say the officer's actions were justified.
"Fortunately she was saved and the innocent person lived,” neighbor Paul Thomas said. “And it's a tragedy that the gentleman died, but you can't stick a knife in an officer's leg and expect to not experience deadly force."
The officer who was stabbed sustained injuries to his thigh and is expected to be okay.
