Woman injured in Agawam police shooting
AGAWAM, Mass. (AP) -- Agawam police say they accidentally shot a 21-year-old woman in an apartment while responding to a 911 call about a break-in and possible domestic assault
The Republican reports that the incident early Saturday left the unidentified woman with a nonfatal injury. Police did not provide details.
Hampden District Attorney Mark G. Mastroianni said Agawam officers heard breaking glass and shouting from inside an apartment.
He said as the officers were readying themselves to enter, the gun of one of the officers fired and the woman was shot. Mastroianni did not release the name of the officer involved.
Police say a suspect related to the call for assistance fled the apartment and was located by police. No details were provided.
Agawam police, StatePolice and the District Attorney's office are investigating.
