SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WHDH) -- A woman and her young daughter were victims of an armed robbery in Springfield.

The criminal came out of nowhere, even grabbing the little girl. He didn't stop until he stabbed the woman and got what he wanted.

It happened Friday night at about 8:30; a man wearing a dark-colored ball cap, white sneakers and jeans walked slowly by a woman's car looking at her.

Video shows him carrying a dark-colored plastic bag. The woman got out of her car with her daughter and approached the market. The suspect then came back demanding her purse.

The woman was afraid for her daughter’s safety and her own, so she ran down Belmont Avenue with her purse hoping the robber would follow.

For a brief moment, he took the little girl by the arm, which brought the mother back. The robber assaulted the woman again as she was trying to get into the store for help.

A brief struggle ensued at the door of the store. The mother became pinned and got nicked by the knife just below her neck. The robber then ran off.

The woman and her daughter are fine and cooperating with police.

The market gave the surveillance video of the crime to police.

The public is asked if they recognize the suspect to call Springfield police.
