Excavator stolen from Northampton work site

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) -- Northampton police say someone stole a $70,000 excavator from a city construction site over the weekend.

Crews completing repairs to the roundabout in front of Look Park on Route 9 discovered the piece of heavy equipment missing when they showed up for work Monday morning.

Marks left on the ground surrounding the area indicate the excavator was loaded onto a trailer at the site.

The Daily Hampshire Gazette reports that the excavator is owned by Milton CAT of Milford and is being leased by Warner Brothers Construction of Sunderland.

Police are investigating.

A 14-ton bulldozer stolen from a Rehoboth work site last month was found several days later in rural western Pennsylvania.
