Mass. teacher who had sex with student jailed

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- A former Holyoke middle school teacher on probation for having a sex with a 15-year-old student has been jailed for 18 months for having contact with the teenager in violation of her probation conditions.

Lisa Lavoie was sent to jail Wednesday by a judge who ignored the pleas of the now 18-year-old man who asked she be spared time behind bars.

The 27-year-old Lavoie and the boy ran away to West Virginia in 2009.

She pleaded guilty in 2011 to statutory rape and was given probation by a judge who said he did not consider her a sexual predator.

The teen was caught hiding in a closet in her apartment in March.

The Republican reports that Lavoie's lawyer argued for dismissal of the violation because the boy is now 18.
