SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- A Springfield police officer killed responding to a domestic violence case is being remembered at a funeral Mass.
Officer Kevin Ambrose's funeral is Friday morning at St. Catherine of Siena church in Springfield. Gov. Deval Patrick is among those expected to attend. Ambrose's pastor from St. Cecilia's Parish in Wilbraham will conduct the service with Springfield Bishop Timothy McDonnell.
Out-of-town officers are to march from the church to a cemetery for Ambrose's burial. Thousands attended his wake on Thursday.
Ambrose was a 36-year veteran of the Springfield department.
He was shot Monday when he answered a 911 call from a woman who said she feared for her life after a dispute with her ex-boyfriend. Police said Shawn Bryan, a New York City prison guard, killed Ambrose, critically wounded Charlene Mitchell and then killed himself.
