WORCESTER, Mass. (WHDH) -- One person was killed in a late night crash in Worcester, Wednesday.
The accident happened on Franklin Street just before midnight.
Approximately 20 minutes before the fatal car crash, police say they were notified a man in a red Audi was driving out of control. Police say a security guard at a building in Worcester flagged down officers and told them a tenant who appeared intoxicated got into a red Audi and was swerving all over the road.
Moments later, a call came into police saying a man got into a red Audi outside of Wings in Worcester. The car then jumped the curb, smashed into a parking meter, and sped away with the driver’s side door still ajar.
Authorities say officers were on patrol looking for the car. They were too late -- the Audi had crashed into a pickup truck, killing the man inside.
“Great man, great father, great grandfather. He was amazing,” said Chris Gonzalez, victim’s stepson.
Gonzalez says his stepfather was killed in the accident. He says his stepfather was in his pickup truck and had just finished work and was headed home.
“He’s the man that I know to be my dad. The man that helped make me into a good dad today. They got him in custody, justice will be served and we will get our closure eventually,” said Gonzalez.
Police say the driver is a 28-year-old man. He faces numerous charges including motor vehicle homicide.
