CATANIA, Italy (WHDH) -- Europe's only active volcano sent streams of lava into the sky this weekend. Saturday night's eruption reached a height of nearly two-miles at a new crater on the southeast face of Mount Etna.

Lava streamed down the side of the volcano.

Experts said people who live nearby weren't in danger.

Mount Etna is located above the Sicilian town of Catania.

It often erupts but rarely causes damage.
