Officers support daughter of fallen cop
PHOENIX, A.Z. (WHDH)-- A young girl’s memory of her father lives on as a row of officers stood in for him at her kindergarten graduation.
“This is wonderful, it’s uplifting, it’s just the most important thing that we can do. We honor his memory, but we celebrate and we’re there with this family,” said friend, Sarah Garza.
Tatum, 6, walked the sidewalk with the support of police officers, friends and her mother. Her father, Darryl, was killed in the line of duty.
“There’s nothing I can say about Darryl that’s not evident, but the number of people that showed up today should show that support,” said an officer.
At graduation, Tatum was given flowers and a teddy bear. Her mother was given a warm embrace.
“I hope she knows that she…we’re never going to replace her father, but that we’re going to do the best we can,” said an officer and friend.
Inside the gym, Tatum sang with her classmates and it gave her mother a chance to smile on.
