Woman delivers baby steps from Fla. hospital
OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (WHDH) -- Two photojournalists raced to the hospital, but their bundle of joy couldn't wait, and it would turn out to be a picture-perfect moment.
Expectant mom Amy Beth Bennett knew she would not make it another step. She was bent over and pushing against a pillar six steps outside Boca Raton Regional Hospital. "Either during that picture or seconds after, I said to Laurie, 'She's coming right now, I can feel the head,'" said Bennet.
"It just, it needed to happen right then. We weren't just going to get a wheelchair, so I could rush upstairs. We were getting a wheelchair, so I had something to lean on, cause this was happening here," said Bennett.
Staffed with her own midwife, who calmly arrived right on cue ... there were four and then five. "She was there, Emily was there, Joe was there, Sienna was there," said Bennett. "We had everyone we needed."
Right on the sidewalk of the hospital, Sienna Grace rushed her way into the world. "When I pushed her out, when I was leaning on the wheelchair, the cord was loosely wrapped around her neck," said Bennett. "She just looped it around her head and slid out."
At 1:30 a.m. Friday, weighing about seven pounds, Sienna Grace arrived in three minutes. The doctors received less of a warning than the new mom. "They got a call from security downstairs saying, 'She's here, she's outside, and she had the baby,'" said Bennett.
The proud parents are professional photojournalists for the Sun-Sentinel. They hired their own photographer to join them for the family moment. "I had no indication at that point it would be a breaking news event. As we've called it, a breaking water event," said photographer Emily.
Raw emotion in the moment, the photojournalist father described the moment like a newsman. "Last week, I was there when LeBron James dribbled with 2.2 seconds, made shot, took pictures. This was like that times 100. I looked down and saw this," said Joe.
Sienna Grace is born into the social media generation, and with parents who are paid to capture life's moments, her baby book is already making blogs.
