Best Buddies flag football game brings smiles and joy
ALLSTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- Tom Brady welcomed old buddies and new to the annual Best Buddies flag football game.
“It’s the highlight of my year and to see the buddies and their excitement,” said Brady.
Buddies were excited to play and many said they had a blast.
“It was awesome and I’m glad they all showed up and it’s a good turn out, I love it,” said Best Buddy, Katie Meade.
7News’ Adam Williams and Kayna Whitworth participated in the game for Team Brady as well.
Whitworth caught one pass and tackled Danny Amendola, while Williams wasn’t so lucky.
“I threw you a ball and you ran in the opposite direction. I was trying to figure out if you were going the other way,” said Brady to Williams.
Halftime featured a victory lap from runners who ran the Boston Marathon to actually raise money for Best Buddies, but never got to finish.
“I made the comment that it seems like Boylston Street, just a smaller version. And these runners were deprived of that this year so this is redemption,” said one runner.
Everyone was there for one reason.
“The core content of Best Buddies is to make everybody feel like they count and they matter,” said one supporter.
The Best Buddies bike ride from Boston to Hyannis is Saturday June 1.
