Videos released of Kennedy vacation in 1963
HYANNISPORT, Mass. (WHDH) -- The Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum released never before seen clips of JFK enjoying a long weekend in Hyannisport.
The footage is from a three-day weekend beginning July 27, 1963.
The videos showed the president golfing, spending time on a motor-yacht, and relaxing with his wife and children.
Kennedy’s brief vacation to Squaw Island took place just four months before JFK’s assassination.
"This was pretty close to being the zenith of his life and presidency, in a way one of the last weekends that a president could really relax without a forethought. none of that security and none of that enormous cordon between the press and the public,” said Michael Beschloss, NBC News Presidential Historian.
The JFK Library and Museum released the footage this weekend, marking the 50th anniversary of the family vacation.
