MARLBORO, Mass. (WHDH) -- A mother decided to take matters into her own hands when a fight broke out at a hockey tournament in Marlboro.
Her son's team was involved in an intense hockey game when the fight broke out between the two sides. The mother apparently had enough with what was going on, so she walked out onto the ice to argue with the refs.
Fights in hockey seem to be the norm, but that's because they usually only involves players.
One brawl broke out in a game between 15-year-olds. Then, someone a bit older joined them on the ice; the mom of one of the players.
“They need to stay on the other side of the boards, let the refs, let the coaches take care of it,” one man said.
7News showed the YouTube video, that's gone viral, to other hockey moms at the rink where it happened. They all had the same reaction.
“I think the coaches are out there for a reason, so you have to let them handle it,” one woman said.
The game took place in early June during a hockey tournament.
Kids that age aren't allowed to fight, but the referees didn't exactly jump in to break it up. It appeared one mother took issue with the refs.
Sporting a pink jacket and clutching her purse in one hand, the mother walked out on the ice to wave her finger in the ref's face.
Other referees at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro say parents rarely take it that far, but you'd be surprised how involved they get.
“It’s amazing what parents will do, I’ve had some try to climb over boards, I’ve had people waiting outside after the game. It doesn’t surprise me,” said Ken Munroe, a hockey referee.
Everyone at the rink is talking about the short clip of the overprotective mom.
The YouTube video has been viewed about 100,000 times.
