Atlanta jeweler: Buy her a diamond, get a free rifle

ATLANTA, Ga. (WHDH) -- An Atlanta area jeweler is has come up with an unusual way to try and sell diamonds: buy a diamond, get a gun.

Drivers heading south on I-75 near the Canton Road exit can't help but notice it.

After 70 years in business, D. Geller and Son is offering a free hunting rifle to whoever buys a diamond.

"What a great idea to get someone a gift and get one for yourself, too," said jeweler Mike Geller.

Just like his radio ads, Mike Geller doesn't want his face shown for security reasons.

He said his new offer is meant to appeal to his customers who like to hunt.

From September 20th through 22nd, anyone who buys at least $2,500 worth of diamonds will get one of these $430 hunting rifles from Smyrna’s Adventure Outdoors.

The company that claims it’s where Atlanta gets engaged also admits business has been a little slow lately.

"If you want to stand out, you have to make it fun," said Geller.

"I think it's a little out there; however, you do see all kinds of things," said wedding planner, Tracey Garner.

After 12 years as a wedding planner, Tracey Garner of Kennesaw says she's never seen an offer like this.

But she still sees all kinds of possibilities for a theme wedding.

"Definitely some camouflage, maybe some, I wouldn't say spurs, but you never know, maybe some hats, some coveralls, who knows?"

Plus D. Geller and Sons said, even if the wedding and the rifle don't last, the diamond will.

“Forever; it'll be around forever," said Geller.
