Store clerk fends off robber with a six pack of beer

PORT ORANGE, Fla. (NBC) -- A knife wielding robber was no match for a clerk who armed himself with cans from the convenience store and pelted the robber, police say.

On Tuesday, a man, later identified as Steven Paul Larson of Port Orange, entered the Citgo gas station on U.S. 1 at Commonwealth Boulevard.

Officials said Larson went into the store with a shirt over his head, waving a knife and demanding money.

Authorities said when Larson reached to grab money from the register, Dilip Patel grabbed some cans of Natural Ice and started throwing them at Larson.

Larson dropped the money and ran on foot, investigators said.

Officials said they arrested Larson at his home and charged him with battery and armed robbery.
