Thieves steal $30K in merchandise from Walmart

LOS LUNAS, New Mexico (NBC) -- A Christmas morning heist at a New Mexico Walmart has police concerned.
The crooks made away with more $30,000 worth of merchandise including rifles.
Surveillance video shows them taking a crow bar to the jewelry counter.
They even went to the cash register to steal cigarette cartons.
They also got away with four rifles which is most troubling to Los Lunas's police chief.
"They are going to be have to sold illegally. Whoever will buy a rifle illegally will use it for illegal purposes. So it could here stay within our county or within our state and be used in a more violent crime say an armed robbery or a domestic. Let's say a murder or it could be shipped over the border to Mexico and be used by the drug cartel," said Chief Roy Melnick, Los Lunas Police Department.
Walmart has an elaborate network of security cameras which picked up the thieves every move.
Cameras also picked up the car the store's security guard was in.
It was in the same spot for more than an hour.
