Budget cuts could close thousands of post offices

"Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep the postmen from their appointed rounds" is the unofficial motto of the U.S. Postal Service.
While for more than 236 years the Post Office has trumped Mother Nature, it seems it can't beat modern society.
After years of competing against e-mail and commercial delivery services the post office is now being forced to make massive cuts in order to survive.
After years of budget over-runs and the decline of Americans using traditional "snail" mail, the Postal Service is faced with a $10-billion deficit.
U.S. Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe has announced "aggressive" steps to get the budget back in line.
He's proposed shutting down some 3,700 Post Offices across the country.
Many of them have been the centerpiece of rural towns since the turn of last century.
35,000 postal workers could lose their jobs.
