Thieves faked out by sample jewelry
UNDATED (WHDH) -- Police in Farmington, Michigan are looking for three men who smashed their way into a jewelry store last month.
Police said the men threw a brick through the window of Mazzoni Jewelers during the early morning hours of April 30.
They also busted out display cases and got away with an undisclosed amount of jewelry.
But there's a catch.
Store owner Michael Mazzoni said most of the jewels genuine.
"Fortunately for us, a lot of the rings that they did get were cubic zirconia and silver. So, they're sample rings. We do a lot of samples," Mazzoni said. "They're pretty well worthless."
Mazzoni said it's unfortunate that the smash-and-grab happened, but thankful that he isn't out hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Police said the men drove off in a red Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable - model year between 1998 - 2004.
