SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Authorities have removed an alligator from the street that caused traffic delays during the morning commute.

The alligator was found in the street near a school, in the area of Bird Road and Southwest 144th Avenue, at about 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Parents, students and passersby said it was exciting to see an alligator. "As we were driving, we thought there was an accident because it was two or three cars, so it was a little scary. We didn't want them to see anything terrible," said Lourdes Hernandez. "When we got close to it, everybody started getting excited, and people were taking pictures, and all the kids were pointing at it, so it was really cool."

Daniel Hernandez also saw the alligator on his way to school. "It's really cool because you never get to see an alligator, and it just popped up out of nowhere."

Officials have removed the alligator and said it will be euthanized.
