UNDATED (WHDH) -- Time Magazine has created a cover controversy.

Critics are angry about a provocative and attention-grabbing photo of a young mother breastfeeding her nearly 4-year-old son on a stool.

The woman featured on the cover of the magazine is not a model, but a stay-at-home mother and blogger.

Many say it’s misleading because the cover story is actually about Doctor Bill Sears, author of The Baby Book who promotes "attachment parenting." Sears coined the phrase for mothers who "raise their children as close to the body as possible."

Sears promotes extended breastfeeding, co-sleeping and carrying babies in a sling across the body all to raise confident, secure children.

Many were bothered by the child's age.

"I'm somewhat appalled to be honest," said Dan Lery. "I don't think that should be on the cover of Time. It's a respectable magazine."

"That baby's too big to be breastfed," a woman said.

"When I was that age I was drinking orange juice," one man said.

The Time cover comes on the 20th anniversary of The Baby Book.

"I think they're stretching to put anything on their cover to get people to buy their magazine," a man said.
