SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- An 18-year-old injured when a tree fell at a summer camp near Yosemite National Park says she was inches from being crushed.
Lizzie Moore spoke to The Associated Press from her hospital room on Thursday. She said she looked up and saw the tree coming down on Wednesday morning and had just enough time to move away.
Moore was pinned by a branch and suffered five broken ribs and a fractured elbow and vertebrae. She was knocked unconscious and doesn't remember much of what happened afterward.
The falling tree top killed 21-year-old art counselor Annais Rittenberg and injured Moore and three others. Officials say they don't know what caused the tree top to fall.
No children at the camp were hurt.
