Dog shot in leg, but saved boy's life

UNDATED -- A little dog is considered a big hero:  say hello to Max.

Max is in the hospital after getting shot in the leg.

The dog was being held by a boy when shots were fired, and a bullet hit Max, but not the boy.

Turns out, Max may have saved the boy's life.

After an expensive surgery, Max has no place to go, so he's waiting to be adopted.

Folks at the humane society say they expect a family to take the little guy in before too long.
