MINNEAPOLIS (WHDH) -- It was an emotional surprise for two young girls when their father made a surprise return from Afghanistan.

Master Sergeant Robert Buresh was nervous as he waited in the dugout at Target Field. His daughters didn’t know he was back from Afghanistan. To get the girls to the baseball park their mother told them a white lie: “To go run the bases and put on clothes and see who wins.”

The girls participated in an on-field event before the game and hiding behind a photographer was Annie’s, 11, and Alex’s, 8, father.

“I thought that my mom kept a pretty good secret,” said one daughter.

The family was grateful to have their loved one home.

“Thanks to the [Minnesota] Twins doing this with me. This is a moment they are going to remember for the rest of their lives,” said the father.
