SAN ANTONIO, Texas (AP) -- The commander of an Air Force training unit in Texas that's embroiled in a widening sex scandal has called for an outside investigation.

Gen. Edward A. Rice Jr., commander of the Air Education and Training Command, says in a Friday news release that he has appointed Maj. Gen. Margaret H. Woodward to lead the investigation at Lackland Air Force base.

Military prosecutors have charged four instructors at Lackland with sexual misconduct with trainees. One has been accused of rape.

The scandal also has led the Air Force to relieve Lt. Col. Mike Paquette of his duties as commander of the 331st Training Squadron.

Rice says most of the military training team follows the proper code of conduct, but he wants to ensure there are no systemic issues.
