OLD BRIDGE, N.J. (AP) -- The injured driver of a New York City-bound commuter bus that struck a mini school bus has been identified.

A spokesman for Academy Bus Lines says Daniel Jean-Pierre was carrying more than 30 people Thursday morning northbound on Route 9 in Old Bridge.

Police say the Academy bus hit the school bus from behind, causing it to flip over. The Academy bus left the roadway and hit a telephone pole and tree.

No children were aboard the school bus.

Academy spokesman Joe Orlando says Jean-Pierre suffered leg injuries and was in surgery at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Orlando says Jean-Pierre has driven for Academy since last May and has a clean record.

More than a dozen people aboard the Academy bus were injured.
