BRANDON, Miss. (WHDH) -- A Mississippi man is in jail after a failed robbery attempt, and he has his mother to thank.

The 22-year-old's mom interrupted the crime by grabbing her son's gun away, and it was all caught on video.

At around 11:30a.m. tuesday, 22-year-old Roy Mitchell entered D's one stop convenience store on highway 80 in Brandon.

Mitchell quickly grabbed some Nacho-Cheese Doritos and threw them on the counter.

He then handed the clerk two dollars to pay for his snack but then things changed dramatically.

As she went to get his change, he went in his waistband and pulled out a gun.

He pointed the gun directly at the clerk and demanded all the money in the cash drawer.

The cashier didn’t move as if in shock.

In a case of maternal intervention, Mitchell's mother walked up, grabbed the gun and ordered him out of the store.

He obeyed leaving with no cash but he did get his chips.

As his mom tried to explain to the clerk that the gun wasn't real, begging her not to call the law, she left and did just the opposite, calling police to the scene.

As Mitchell and his mother left in a red Oldsmobile, an alert went out for the car. A short time later it was stopped by police and Mitchell was taken into custody.

Officers found a gun in the vehicle.

The gun was a fake, a plastic replica made to look like the real thing.

Mitchell faces attempted armed robbery charges, in addition to the embarrassment of having surveillance video of a heist attempt where you're busted by your own mom.
