PLANTATION, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida family is furious after their special needs daughter was put on the wrong school bus and was left wondering alone.
Six-year-old Ma'kayvia Mackey was crying Friday afternoon and was upset. "They sent me on the wrong bus. Then I got scared and because they didn't know I was on the other bus," said Ma'kayvia.
The special needs student was sent home on the wrong school bus. Ma'kayvia should have been dropped off on Northwest 12th Court and 55th Avenue in Lauderhill. When her father arrived at the bus stop, Ma'kayvia was not on her assigned school bus. "They didn't know where she was at. They contacted the bus people. The school and the bus was getting into it about where she should be at...they couldn't give me any answers," said father Michael Mackey.
Ma'kayvia was dropped off about six blocks on Northwest 17th Court and 54th Terrace. She was then allowed to
walk out of the bus.
After an hour searching for his daughter, the Mackey's called police. Ma'kayvia was found three blocks away from her mistaken drop off point and residents alerted police. "Right now they still will not tell me who put her on the wrong bus. No one wants to take blame on," said Mackey.
The Broward County bus system has been in public eye since the new school year started with transportation troubles. A new bus route was put into place in hopes of saving money. The system has lead a public fight between Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie and bus drivers.
Ma'kayvia mother Marilynn just wants an explanation on why her daughter was let out of the bus. "What I want to know is why did they let her get off the bus? They weren't suppose to let her get out the bus," said Marilynn.
