Deceased AL woman wins mayoral election

JACKSON’s GAP, Al. (WHDH) -- A deceased woman won a mayoral election in a small town in Alabama.
Janice Canham died earlier this summer from complications after surgery, but she won the mayoral election by a vote of 128-66 after her death!
The town clerk said she was alive when the ballot was prepared.
"People love to leave a legacy and I knew it was her hope and desire to, to be mayor and to move Jackson’s Gap forward,” said Janice Glaze, a newly-elected councilperson.
Alabama law requires a candidate's name to remain on the ballot even after death.
The town council will appoint a new mayor when the new term starts in November.
