Armed man robs 3 fast food restaurants via drive-thru

SUNRISE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are searching for some brazen bandits who struck three times in one night at fast food restaurants throughout Broward County.

Police said the thieves robbed two McDonald's restaurants and on Burger King via their drive-thru windows, just after 3:30 in the morning, Friday. The robberies happened at a McDonald's located at 2260 N. University Drive, a Burger King located at 6125 West Sunrise and another McDonald's located at 3073 West Oakland Park Blvd.

Police released surveillance footage that they said shows the suspect believed behind the three armed robberies. Sunrise Police Officer Cindi McCue said, "There's an angle from the camera that captures a vehicle that ordered food, and the vehicle then pulls around to the pick-up window and continues on at a slow speed, and then there's an individual that follows the vehicle on foot and approaches the window and demands money."

Police said the suspects were not successful at the McDonald's located at 2260 N University Dr. "When the clerk sees him, the clerk pulled the window shut and retreats to the back of the store, so there was no money lost."

McCue said the robbers did however successfully rob the other fast food restaurants. "The other fast food restaurant was possibly an hour earlier, very similar MO, same vehicle description, same description of the person on foot. When he approached the window, he demanded money and the clerk handed over money. Then, he demanded the entire drawer, and the clerk complied, and again they left the area."

Customers said they are stunned. "It's like you can't be safe anywhere," said a customer. "It's a fast food restaurant, and people just want to grab a good meal, and the next thing you know you have guys running in and robbing the place."
