One dead after Fla. police chase ends in crash
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN) -- According to police, a suspected purse snatcher has died after a chase ended in a four-car crash.
The collision forced the closure of the intersection of Taft Street and North Park Street, late Monday afternoon.
Police said the accident occurred after the driver of a blue Chevy Impala, who was the suspect in a purse snatching, tried to elude capture.
Hollywood Police spotted the vehicle on I-95 near Johnson Street after a B.O.L.O was reported for the vehicle. Once in pursuit, the driver of the Chevy Impala crashed into a van, leading to the chain-reaction accident.
One of the vehicles sustained major damage to the front, and the Impala flipped over after it was apparently hit by another car. Police said the suspect's vehicle then caught fire. The driver of the Impala was pronounced dead on the scene. The passenger of the Impala, a woman, was not seriously injured.
Four people were transported to a nearby hospital according to police, including the driver of a van who broke his arm.
A police officer was also injured in the accident but only suffered cuts to his arm.
Roadways remain closed in all four directions, as police continue to investigate.
