BOSTON (WHDH) -- The U.S. House of Representatives approved a measure to name a federal building in Washington, D.C. for the late Tip O’Neill.
The Massachusetts democrat was the longest continuously-serving house speaker.
“This is one of those moments when you wonder how the honoree would feel especially when it is someone like tip who never quite held back on his opinions. Perhaps he would have enjoyed seeing leaders from opposite sides of the aisle come together to give him a well-deserved hurrah,” Rep. John Boehner, House Speaker.
O'Neill served in Congress for 34 years.
The measure will now head to the Senate.
