Romney campaign spent $25,000 on fireworks

BOSTON (AP) -- Mitt Romney's campaign had planned an eight-minute, $25,000 fireworks show to celebrate a presidential victory that never materialized.

The fireworks were scheduled to be shot from a barge in Boston Harbor within sight of the Republican's election night party at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.

Instead, Atlas Professional Fireworks Displays unloaded the pyrotechnics from mortars on the barge and carted them back to company headquarters in Jaffrey, N.H.

A permit filed with the city said the fireworks show could have occurred between 7 p.m. Tuesday, just after the first polls closed, and 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Atlas president Stephen Pelkey told The Boston Globe the show was designed to be "fast-paced" to cap off the evening, heavy on patriotic colors of red, white and blue explosions.
