MA Senate Special Election: Daniel Winslow on the Issues
Debt & Spending
Our national debt is choking our economy. It’s a bipartisan problem, and we need to call on Republicans and Democrats alike to focus on solutions that reduce wasteful spending and balance our budget. Washington politicians have demonstrated a lack of responsibility for our federal spending addiction.
Solution - Cut spending now and force spending caps on Congress. Congress should be required to pass a long term, responsible budget that is balanced. I would be a strong advocate for the Balanced Budget Amendment.
Jobs & Economy
The Federal Government is not the answer to reviving our economy - the answer is the free market. The unemployment rate is hovering at 8% and Americans lack the confidence to invest in our economy.
Solution - America is home to the highest skilled workforce in the world, but we need to empower them by eliminating over regulation. Government needs to get out of the way and let small businesses thrive. Every year billions of dollars are spent in order to comply with outdated and unnecessary regulations, rather than put towards hiring more workers. We need to encourage investment in education and new technology.
Small businesses employ more Americans than any other industry. Raising taxes on these businesses is irresponsible, and it's slowing our economic recovery. Higher taxes means less money for existing workers, fewer jobs, and discourages investment in job creation. The 2013 tax increase is $149.7 billion, nearly twice as much as sequestration ($85.3 billion.)
Solution -I will always have a citizen's perspective of our tax dollars. It’s the people's money, not Washington's. I want to reform our tax code to encourage entrepreneurship, investment, and employment. Simply put, we need to simplify the tax system.
Unlike President Obama, when I say “all of the above” as the best way forward for American energy, I mean it. We should exploit effective clean energy while also utilizing the resources here in America and ultimately reducing our dependence on foreign oil.
Solution - We need a smart approach to energy, including over the horizon offshore and land-based wind, solar, hydrogen, natural gas, and nuclear energy. We must not pour millions of our tax dollars to the Solyndra’s of the world - we need a comprehensive, well developed, intelligent approach to energy.
I have a record of supporting the 2nd Amendment and will defend the rights of all lawful gun owners.
