Menino's children comment on his decision
BOSTON (WHDH) -- Boston Mayor Thomas Menino announced Thursday he will not seek re-election. This decision was important for him, but also for his family.
7News spoke with some of Menino’s children on Thursday, who were standing by his side as he addressed the public and made his announcement.
“My advice to him is it’s his job. He does what he wants. I can’t tell him to go, can’t tell him not to go. If he’s happy, he’s happy. I’m not going to tell him what to do,” said Tom Menino, Jr., the mayor’s son. “We’re not going to influence him.”
“One thing we don’t have to do anymore is schedule birthday parties or schedule rehearsals or recitals or anything on a schedule -- we can just live our lives now,” said Susan Menino, the mayor’s daughter.
Susan Menino said she’ll be glad when she won’t have to watch Twitter all day to see what the people are saying about him.
The mayor told 7News he spent about the last five days with family and friends before he came to the decision to not seek re-election, but in the end it was only his decision.
