Menino back in hospital after fracturing fibula
BOSTON (WHDH) -- Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is back in the hospital after breaking his right leg.
At Menino’s first event Friday morning he twisted his ankle and fell to the ground. He returned to Boston City Hall where his right leg was swelling. His doctor advised him to get x-rays, which showed he fractured his right fibula.
Menino was admitted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he will have surgery on Saturday morning. He is expected to remain at the hospital for a few days.
City Hall said Menino is “frustrated”.
Menino’s injuries come just two weeks after he announced he will not seek re-election due to recent health issues.
“I’m back to a mayor’s schedule, but not a Menino schedule,” Menino said in his announcement.
The mayor spent almost two months in the hospital at the end of last year after doctors discovered a blood clot. He also suffered a broken back in his hospital bed, and was diagnosed with diabetes.
